Preventing Holiday Scams - December '23

For most of us, the holidays are full of giving, getting and goodwill. But some bad actors use the holidays to take advantage of people’s generous spirits. Together, we can recognize these bad actors and enjoy the holidays without being scammed.

Remember to Carefully read reviews, look for security credentials on websites, and research unfamiliar retailers before you take advantage of a discount and think twice before clicking on any links.

Common Holiday Scams:

  • Delivery Scams
    • When expecting a lot of packages over the holidays, shippers will often provide updates on the status of orders. Knowing this, scammers will send phishing emails pretending to be from companies like FedEx and UPS to lure us to phony webpages and get us to share personal information. Look closely at delivery notifications and email updates before clicking on links or providing information. Remember, UPS and FedEx won’t ask for personal or financial information via email.
  • Social Media Scams
    • Fake Online Stores: Popular, sold-out items suddenly appear in ads. If an item is sold-out in box stores and reputable online stores, then the websites with availability are likely scams trying to obtain your personal and financial information.
    • Online shopping provides criminals with an opportunity to trick you into paying for goods and services that either don't exist or with terrible quality. After seeing an item listed in your ads for days, you order the item. When it arrives it doesn't resemble what you ordered, or it may not show up at all. Tip: Only buy from reputable merchants and always check reviews. Regularly monitor your financial statements for unauthorized or suspicious transactions.
  • Public Wi-Fi
    • Public Wi-Fi is available just about everywhere from the local coffee shop to the hotels and airports you visit while traveling. While it's easy and convenient to purchase items from anywhere when you're on your phone or on your laptop, it poses security risks. Protect yourself and your accounts by only making purchases on secure Wi-Fi networks where your personal information isn't shared with scammers looking to steal a deal.
  • Charity Scams
    • Many people give at the end of the year and scammers are targeting the season's generosity by creating fraudulent charities. Don't let scammers stifle your charitable spirit. A little research can ensure your contributions are reaching the intended reputable recipients. If you are uncomfortable or feel pressured to send money, STOP! Chances are you are being scammed.

Multi-Factor Authentication- August '23

The protection of your personal information is very important to us. We are pleased to announce an added login security feature that helps guard your personal information by adding another layer of identity verification to online financial interactions.

How does the new security feature work?

When logging into online banking on your computer, you will receive a message (text or voice) on your phone with a 6 digit code. You will be asked to enter this code to complete the login process on your computer. This feature takes the place of answering security questions when logging into online banking. This feature is also available in our TouchBanking mobile app.

Covid-19 Update -

What to Expect with Lobbies Reopening.  - June '20

First National Bank of Raymond plans to open all 5 branch location lobbies to the public starting Monday morning, June 8th. The lobbies will resume normal branch hours and will be fully staffed. Customers are encouraged to continue utilizing our drive-thru, night deposit boxes, online and mobile banking services whenever possible.

First National Bank will be taking many safety precautions to comply with the State of IL Executive Orders for Phase 3.

We ask customers to limit the amount of time they spend in our branch lobby to the minimum. If possible, call ahead and schedule an appointment. This will help curtail time waiting inside the bank. Please maintain the 6-foot social distancing guidance, which is marked on the floor. We have installed shields at our teller windows and have desk top versions on hand, if you need to meet with one of our loan officers or new account representatives. We encourage customers to wear a mask while conducting their business inside the building. Masks and Hand Sanitizer will be readily available for everyone near the entrance.

We appreciate your choice to bank with us always, but especially during this difficult time. Our main goals continue to be keeping our employees and customers safe while serving the financial needs of our communities.

Equifax Data Breach - September '17

Equifax has set up a dedicated site at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com for consumers to determine if they have been impacted by the breach. Access this site from a secure computer and under the “Potential Impact” link, you can enter your last name and last 6 digits of your Social Security number to determine if your information was compromised in the Equifax breach.

Consider Enrolling in a credit monitoring service.  Equifax is offering one free year of credit report monitoring through the above website, or there are other providers through TransUnion and Experian or other third parties.

Check your credit reports annually from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion - for free - by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.

Monitor existing credit card and financial institution accounts closely for charges that are not recognized. Notify the financial institution or credit card company immediately of any unauthorized transactions.

Consider placing a credit freeze on your files through the Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion websites. A credit freeze makes it harder for someone to open a new account in your name. Keep in mind that a credit freeze won't prevent charges from occurring on existing accounts.  Experian and TransUnion may charge a fee for this service.

Consider placing a fraud alert on your files through the Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion websites. A fraud alert warns creditors that you may be an identity theft victim and that they should verify that anyone seeking credit in your name is really you.

EMV Chip Cards - September '17

First National Bank will soon be offering debit cards with EMV chip technology.  After the launch, you will be receiving your new card during the month that your card is set to expire.  For example, every card that expires in the month of September (regardless of the year) will receive a new EMV card within that month.  Once your new card arrives be sure to activate it by following the instructions provided within the mailing.  Your pin number and card number will remain the same.  Once your new card is activated, your old card will be automatically deactivated.

Why the change?
The new EMV cards contain a microprocessor that enhances the security of your debit card.  The chip creates a unique code to complete each transaction, making it more difficult for your card information to be compromised.

How do I use my new card?
To use your new card at a chip-enabled terminal you will insert the card, face up and chip end first, into the terminal and leave it in the terminal until the transaction is complete and you are instructed to remove the card.  If the merchant does not have chip-enabled terminals, you will swipe your card as you did with your traditional card.

Please call us at (217) 229-3701 or stop by your local branch if you have any additional questions about these changes.

FNB is now offering eStatements, a fast and secure option for receiving your monthly statements online!  The eStatement option is available through our online banking system.  If you are not a current Online Banking user you will need to enroll on our website’s homepage before you can be setup for eStatements.  Once you have selected eStatements as your statement delivery method you will begin receiving an email each month notifying you that your statement is ready.  You will be able to retrieve up to the last 12 months of statements and check images from the documents tab of your online banking account.  For more information on eStatements and how to get signed up visit http://www.fnbraymond.com/Online-Banking.aspx#eStatements.

CardValet - January '17

FNB is pleased to introduce CardValet®, a mobile card management application that helps reduce fraud by allowing cardholders to monitor accounts with their smartphone and control how, when, and where their debit card is used.

CardValet was developed in partnership with Fiserv and is available in the Apple® App Store or Google® Play.  Once CardValet is set up, cardholders have the ability to "turn off" their card when not in use, establish transaction spending limits, and decline a transaction when the amount exceeds a predefined threshold.

Real-time smartphone alerts can be customized based on the types of information each cardholder would like to receive.  For example, a cardholder can set up an alert to be notified when a card is used, when a transaction is approved and exceeds any of the permitted use policies, or when a card transaction has been attempted but has been declined based on the parameters established.

CardValet offers cardholders the capability of linking additional accounts to better monitor dependent spending.  For example, by using the GPS system in their smart phone, geographic use restrictions can be established for college students along with restrictions on merchant type and spending limits.

CardValet is also ideal for small businesses.  All transactions can be monitored or controlled for specific merchant categories, such as travel, restaurants, or entertainment, and can be denied or reported for types of merchants deemed not business-related.

CardValet is ideal for users who want to actively manage their cards.  CardValet's inventive approach to card management makes the user experience as easy as possible.  We are excited to offer this tool to our cardholders! Not only is CardValet user-friendly and convenient, but it will aid in our continued efforts to prevent fraud and identity theft for our cardholders.
